Math + Making Professional Learning Project with Rainy River District School Board (RRDSB)
The STEAM-3D Maker Lab at Ontario Tech U has officially begun the Math + Making Professional Learning (PL) project with the Rainy River District School Board (RRDSB) educators. This virtual professional learning is happening in a hybrid synchronous and asynchronous format, facilitated through the Microsoft Teams app. The PL will take place from April 21st, 2021)through to June 9th, 2021.
Educators have the freedom to independently progress through the six modules created by the STEAM 3D Maker Lab team and to use the support materials provided by the team to guide their learning (support videos, slides and lesson plans). Educators also have the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and the facilitators through the asynchronous discussion and chat features of Teams and during the once/weekly synchronous sessions (also hosted through Teams). Educators have been encouraged to extend their learning by sharing additional resources, ideas and topically relevant lessons and activities.
The PL is embedded and continuous and the aim is to help educators learn about connections between the new math curriculum, coding and to learn how a making approach can facilitate subject-integrated learning. The tools featured in this PL include TinkerCad, Scratch, Makey Makey, Paper circuits, CoSpaces EDU and robots like Ozobots.
